DEATHCRASH EMPTY HEAVY

London-based slowcore band deathcrash release a pensive new single 'Empty Heavy' and announce their second album Less, set for release March 17th on untitled (recs). Following on from last years post-rock epic Return, deathcrash decamped to the remote island of Lewis to record Less, channelling the stark yet beautiful landscapes into the compositions. First taste 'Empty Heavy' is a slow-burning exercise in space and patience, delicate guitar work and tender lyricism building into a cathartic burst of noise and emotion; bassist Patrick Fitzgerald describing the structure as “reflected by the different states of loss portrayed lyrically through the song.” The song is accompanied by a stunning video in which the sculpture featured on the album made by artist and photographer Kaye Song, is burned, co-director Joe Taylor describes the idea behind the video: “We had always planned to burn Kaye’s sculpture, for it to become and effigy of the record and the time we spent on Lewis. After spending the best part of two weeks carrying it across bogs, lochs and moors whilst shooting it for the album cover, the storm that had been raging for three days finally subsided, and so we decided that evening would be the night.” -Toby Evans-Jesra
